The Association of Stylists & Barbers presented a “Big Check” for $2,500 to The Autism Society of America’s Greater Georgia Chapter at the Association’s 4th Annual Awards Celebration on November 12, 2011 at the Rose Cottage in Kennesaw, Ga.
“Our celebration reflects on what our TASB volunteers have accomplished throughout the year — giving ‘recognition with style’ to our many volunteers, sponsors, and clients,” says TASB Founder Elaine Lord. The check represents the first of many future awards that will be distributed to organizations dedicated to autism research.
Award funds were raised at TASB’s first annual 24-hour “Cut-A-Thon for Autism,” held August 27–28, 2011. Approximately 100 TASB volunteer stylists and barbers from 20 salons and barbershops participated, including those from the following Atlanta-area locations: Heads-Up Hair Design (Kennesaw), One Look Salon (Marietta), Jennifer & Co. (Dallas), Doshia’s Parlor (Mableton), Perfection by Jeanette and Melissa & Co. (both in Cartersville), and A New Creation and Unique Hair Salon (both in Woodstock).
To date, TASB has raised $5,683 this year, benefiting charities including Autism Speaks and Relay for Life. The next “TASB Cut-A-Thon for Autism” will take place Aug. 25–26, 2012, and volunteers from across the nation are now being accepted.
